Here is an antique silver plated julep strainer that is marked “Reed & Barton 4”. It measures approximately 5 and 3/4ths inches in length and the bowl measures approximately 2 and 3/4ths inches wide.
The star cut-out or “Star” pattern julep strainer is known to have existed as early as 1886 as it was featured in the 1886-87 Meriden Britannia catalog. This strainer has a “Back Tipped” design on the handle. It also has a monogram which is difficult to read. My best guess, or actually guesses, what it might be are “J P”, ” I P”, “J S” or “I S”.
