Here is an antique silver plated julep strainer marked “1847 Rogers Bros. A1” followed by the round Meriden Britannia mark. It measures 5 and 7/8ths inches in length and the bowl measures approximately 2 and 3/4ths inches wide. The pattern is a classic “back tipped” design.
This strainer is monogrammed “P. I. G.” in a swirly script.
This strainer, with the open star in the handle, was featured in the 1886-87 Meriden Britannia Catalog and was called the “Star Julep Strainer” in that catalog. The photo shows this strainer on that catalog page. Take note that at the top of that photo shows “1847 Rogers Bros. A1” followed by that round Meriden Britannia mark just as found on this strainer. Meriden Britannia became International Silver in 1898 so this strainer predates the founding of IS.
