Here is a silver plated julep strainer marked with “Wm. Rogers, a star symbol, 2”. This William Rogers mark is a backstamp of Simpson, Hall & Miller. The strainer measures 5 and 1/2 inches long; the bowl is 2 and 3/4 inches wide. Also marked near the Rogers mark but in the opposite direction, is “J Rimoldi”.
I believe this might have been Giuseppe (Joseph) Rimoldi who worked at Delmonico’s in the late 1800s. He went on to become caterer for the New York Press Club and then organized the cafe and restaurant at the Jefferson Hotel.
This strainer has a scalloped shell shaped bowl and a star cut-out in the handle for hanging.
