Here is an antique silver plated julep strainer that is marked “N. F. Silver Co. 1877” which is a hallmark of Oneida. N. F. stands for Niagara Falls. This strainer measures slightly over 6 and 1/2 inches in length and the bowl measures approximately 3 inches wide.
There is an acorn figure cutout on the handle. The acorn was used as a logo by I. W. Harper Whiskey (Bernheim Distilling, Louisville, KY) and it is possible that this strainer is associated with them.
Also included in this listing are six eight inch Windsor Twist bar spoons marked “1877 Niagara Falls Silver Co.”
Please see my blog post “The Victorian Bar” to read more about cocktail strainers in general:
This is a nice heavy strainer and could also be used as an ice scoop.
