Here is a vintage ice pail with drainer and ice tongs. The pail and tongs are marked “EPNS A1 C & A”. ” EPNS” stands for “electro plated nickel silver” meaning it is silver plated. This term is commonly used in England. I am not certain what “C & A” stands for. It could be Crofts & Assinder or it could be Collett & Anderson, both British companies, and both founded in the late 1800s.
I am listing these items as dating to the 1960s. However, the classic ribbed bucket design has been around since the late 1800s. No help there!
The bucket stands 6 inches tall to the top of the rim and about 10 and 1/4 inches to top of the handle; about 5 and 1/4 inches across the diameter of the top of the pail. The tongs are about 7 inches long. The drainer is about 1 inch tall.
The tongs have more of a brushed golden hue.
The pail is very heavy and well made. The handle moves up and down as intended.
This is a classic design. It is rare to find an ice pail and tongs with the same mark. Having a drainer is a plus too!
