Star Julep Strainer

Here is an antique silver plated julep strainer that is unmarked as to maker. It measures approximately 5 and 3/4ths inches in length and the bowl measures approximately 2 and 3/4ths inches wide.

Also included is a bar spoon marked “Hall & Elton” also in the back tipped design. It measures 5 and 3/8 inches. The photo shows this spoon and strainer on pages of the 1892 Rogers & Bro. Catalog. You’ll see this exact same design is shown in that catalog as a bar spoon. An illustration of a star julep strainer is on the opposite page.

Search Hall & Elton in my blog http://queenofsienna.wordpress.com to read about Hall & Elton.

The star cut-out or “Star” pattern julep strainer is known to have existed as early as 1886 as it was featured in the 1886-87 Meriden Britannia catalog. This strainer has a back tipped design.
