Here are two antique silver plated julep strainers marked “1877 Niagara Falls Silver Co.” They measure just over 5 and 3/4ths inches long and 2 and 5/8ths inches wide.
What is interesting about these two is that the stems of the clover cut outs are on opposite sides…one goes to the right and one to the left.
The clover cut-out or “Clover” pattern julep strainer is known to have existed as early as 1886 as it was featured in the 1886-87 Meriden Britannia catalog.
