Pictured are two bar spoons in the classic Windsor Twist pattern with abstract floral detail. The spoons measure 7 Iinches in length and are marked “HE L. Straus & Sons 5”.

Lazarus Straus & Sons was a retailer in New York City in the late 1800s; the “HE” indicates these spoons were manufactured by Holmes & Edwards.

  1. I was wondering if Waldo ever made a spoon similar to this spoon but in aluminum bronze? It has the same pattern as the flowers as well. The back of the spoon has the griffin head then Waldo with HE at the end. If you have any information on this it would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Although I’ve never seen a Waldo aluminum bronze spoon like this, it wouldn’t surprise me. Holmes & Edwards manufactured the Waldo line of flatware and made this design bar spoon for themselves. So they certainly could have made the spoon in aluminum bronze with the Waldo mark.

      1. Would that most likely have been before the Waldo Foundry dissolved in the early 1900’s? Or did they continue to make Waldo flatware after that?

    1. Thank you for your help. Do you by chance know if any copies or fakes were made? I was recently going through my grandmother’s things and found the spoon.
